Come and play with Emil and Ida in Katthultsgården!

All play environments from Katthultsgården are based on Björn Berg’s beloved illustrations for Astrid Lindgren’s stories about Emil in Lönneberga.
The play exhibition was first created in collaboration with Kulturen in Lund in 2014 and has since visited Kalmar Castle, Tjolöholms Castle, and Jordbro Kulturhus.

Idea and scenography: Torbjörn Berg

Björn Berg (1923–2008) was an artist, painter, and graphic artist who also sculpted in wood. For forty years, he worked for Dagens Nyheter (Sweden’s largest morning paper) as a reportage artist and illustrator of daily verses.
He collaborated with several authors, including Alf Henrikson, Alf Prøysen, and P.C. Jersild, and his work appears in over 400 books.
Björn Berg’s illustrations for Astrid Lindgren’s Emil stories became his great breakthrough in children’s literature, and his own son Torbjörn was the model for Emil.
His illustrations for Alf Prøysen’s Mrs. Pepperpot were cherished in both Norway and Sweden.
