Welcome to our website!
The 20th of July the adventurous bear Paddington will visit Stockholm Toy Museum for the very first time. You will find Paddington in our museum from 11-15. Welcome!
Unique toy collection for the whole family
The unique toy collection, displayed here in the Stockholm Toy Museum, Bergrummet, consists of almost 40,000 items, making it the largest privately owned toy collection in Northern Europe.
The exhibition is suitable for the whole family, young and old. The collection consists of toys from several generations and people of all ages enjoy visiting us.
Child-friendly museum with play areas
There are several areas around the museum where our youngest visitors can play. For example, you can fry pancakes and meatballs in Teddy’s grandmother’s kitchen, jump on a hobby horse, play pinball or borrow books and games in the café.
The underground tunnels of Skeppsholmen, once used by the Swedish military, are now home to this incredible collection. We have retained the raw rock walls, which provide a stark contrast to the imaginative play that surrounds our collection. Here, untouched collector’s items mix with broken favorite things in a magical environment!
The toys
The oldest toys on display are some beloved dolls from the 15th century, but you’ll also find spaceships, dollhouses, pedal cars, tin figures, all of Tintin’s vehicles, Barbie, Disney and a unique section of toys owned and played with by royalty.
Most of our toys are produced in Germany, which was the leading toy manufacturing country in Europe before World War II.
Names like Märklin, Fleichmann, Steiff and Schleich are of course represented at Stockholm Toy Museum.
Below you can see pictures of some of our fantastic toys! Everything is displayed in an exciting underground environment inspired by the toys themselves.
The series
People have communicated through the visual arts since time immemorial, whether through rock carvings, oil paintings, sketches on napkins or comic books. The modern comic strip as we know it today emerged in the early 1800s,
but only became really popular in the 1930s, with cartoon characters such as The Yellow Kid, Max and Moritz, and Sweden’s own Adamson.
What’s so special about the comic book collection at Stockholm Toy Museum is that you can see original drawings by masters like Charles M Schulz and Don Rosa, alongside more contemporary talents like Ellen Ekman, Ola Skogäng and Johan Wanloo. Plus, of course, we have a plethora of comic books from the 1930s to the present day to admire and be inspired by.
